BURNING SETTEE

FIRE IN HOTEL

A guest at the Broadway Hotel who was sleeping on a shakedown on a settee because the hotel was full, awoke early yesterday morning to find his makeshift bed alight. Machines from the Central Fire Brigade answered the call at 6.15 a.m., ana arrived in time to prevent any structural damage, but the settee was badly from the Central Fire Brigade answered a series of malicious false alarms in the early hours of yesterday morning, calls being received from the corner of Chambers street and Valley road. North-East Valley at 12.42 a.ni., and from the corner of Georgfe and Edina streets at 12.57 a.m.. and from the corner of George and Queen streets at 1.11 a.m. _ Chimney fires were extinguished yesterday bv the South Dunedin Brigade at 2.10 p.m. in Musselburgh Rise and at 2.56 p.m. in Glen road, while the Central Brigade attended to a similar outbreak in Lees street at 2.30 p.m.
