DRUNKEN DRIVER
LICENCE CANCELLED FOR YEAR Found asleep over the wheel of a rental car at I.3o'yesterday morning and certified a-quarter of an hour later as being unfit to drive, Daniel Bone Arbuthnott, a traveller, aged 42, appeared before Mr J. D. Willis, S.M., in the City Police Court yesterday on a charge of being in a state of intoxication while in charge of a motor car. Senior Sergeant J. H. S. Hogg, who prosecuted, said that the defendant had been visiting friends and had been found in a heavy sleep with his car parked on the wrong side of the road opposite the hotel where he was staying. The defendant was represented by Mr J. G. Warrington, who stated that there had been no report of dangerous driving. The magistrate imposed a fine of £25 and cancelled the defendant’s licence for one year.
