FAREWELL MESSAGE

SIR JOHN FALCONER DEPARTURE FOR THE SOUTH Sir John Falconer, former Lord Provost of Edinburgh, who has been visiting Dunedin in connection with the centenary, will leave to-day for Invercargill. In a farewell messages to Dunedm Sir John said he would return to Scotland with gratitude for the overwhelming kindness he had received. The reception given him reminded him of the spontaneous and hearty hospitality of Scotland in the early days. He would be able to tell the Old Country that Scotland held a very warm place in New Zealand hearts. ■•The emphasis placed on your ties with Home in your Scottish societies, pipe bands, and the remembrance of Scottish customs warm my heart. These bonds of love and admiration are mutual, and every endeavour should be made to strengthen them in both countries. “I will npver forget my visit to Dunedin." concluded Sir John. “nor the kindnes I have received, and T hope that in future our citizens will walk together more closely, hand in hand."
