GROVES DOMINATES ATTACK

OUTRIGHT WIN FOR OLD BOYS With two wickets in hand, Old Boys gained the runs necessary to give it an outright win against University within three minutes of the close of play in the match on the University Oval. L. J. Groves’s slow leg spinners were the main factor in University’s dismissal for 136 in the second innings, the Old Boys’ bowler once again dominating the attack against batsmen who refused to use their feet to him. He emerged with six wickets for 51 runs, which made his figures for the match 14 for 94. On the first day Old Boys had lost eight wickets for 137 in response to University’s first innings total of 135, and they took the score to 151 on Saturday before the innings closed. University was all out for 136 in its second innings, top scorer being R. T. Hunt with 33, got by clean, crisp stroke-making, and including one 6 and one 4. A. G. Goff, who drove strongly in scoring 33 not out, hit four 4’s, but the only others to offer resistance to the bowling were 1. J. Botting, who compiled 22 attractively, and L. C. Baker, 20. D. S. St. •John and R. N. Couper, who each claimed two wickets for Old Boys, gave Groves good support. Requiring 121 runs in 89 minutes, Old Boys scrambled home, but lost eight wickets in the process. C. G. Graham gave another confident display of batting for 36, and A. W. Roberts scored 26, most of the others getting out in an endeavour to force the psce. The most successful bowlers for University were V. A. C. McArley with three for 34, and D. A. Morrison, three for 42. Scores: — University First innings 135 Second Innings L. C.
