Vice-regal The Governor-General, Sir Bernard Freyberg, and Lady Freyberg were present at the second day of the Dunedin Jockey Club's meeting at Wingatui on Saturday morning, and in the evening they watched the fireworks display at Hancock Park. Their Excellencies attended divine service at St. Matthew's Church yesterday morning, and Sir Bernard held an investiture last night in First Church, under the auspices of the Venerable Order of St. John of Jerusalem. Lady Freyberg was also present at the ceremony. Ministerial The Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, will leave by the express this morning on his return to Wellington. The Minister of Defence, Mr Jones, will leave by the second plane this morning on his return to Wellington. The Postmaster-general, Mr Hackett, left by the late train last night for Christchurch and Wellington. Mr Justice Kennedy left by the express on Saturday for Wellington for the sittings of the Court of Appeal. Mr Edward Burgess, of Gainsborough, England, is visiting Dunedin in the course of a business tour of the Dominion. Mr Burgess is technical director for Marshall, Son and Co., Ltd., manufacturers of agricultural machinery. After a tour of Otago and Southland, he will return to Dunedin about March 11, prior to his departure north. z A Sydney cable message states that, by arrangement with the committee coordinating the itinerary for Miss New Zealand’s Sydney visit, the New Zealand Association of New South Wales will give a ball in her honour at the Wentworth Hotel on April 5. Mr E. C. Burton, principal foreign representative of the Link-Belt Company, Toronto, arrived in Dunedin on Saturday and is staying at the City Hotel. Mr Burton, whose company is one of the largest of its kind in the world, will leave for the north again on Friday. The fifth annual composers’ contest, organised by Charles Begg and Co., Ltd., has been won by Mr L. D. Austin, of Wellington, for his' composition, “ Two Improvisations." The second prize was awarded to Mr A. R. Tremain, of Feilding. The judge of the contest was Mr Frank Hutchens, of the Conservatorium of Music, Sydney. Mr E. H. King, who has qualified as a registered surveyor, has been admitted into partnership in the business of Messrs E Fletcher Roberts and W. C. Duffill.
