FIRE BRIGADE CALLS

The city and suburban fire brigades spent a busy week-end answering four calls on Saturday and two yesterday. At 12.42 p.m. on Saturday, the Central Brigade was called to a rubbish fire in the boiler room of the Otago Museum and at 12.52 p.m. machines from the South Dunedin and Green Island divisions turned out to a grass fire in Alexander street, Abbotsford. A gorse fire in Murray and Playfair streets required the attention of machines from South Dunedin and Central at 3.33 p.m. In the evening at 9.22, a call was received to the Tramsheds but on arrival the brigadesmen found that the fire had been extinguished.

Yesterday, a chimney fire in Sullivan street, South Dunedin, was put out at 11.13 a.m., and two hours later engines from South Dunedin and Central attended to a washhouse fire in King Edward street.
