BOXING ASSOCIATION
HIGH STANDARD .MAINTAINED
A high standard of boxing, which compared favourably with past perfoi manccs, was maintained during the past year, states the annual report of the Oamaru Amateur Boxing Association. Three tournaments—two amateur and one professional—were held during the year, and the club was indebted to trainers and hoys from other centres who assisted during the season. Two local contestants. Max Gardiner and Phil Huston, tool: part in the New Zealand championships at Christchurch, and both did well to reach the semi-finals. Despite set-backs, the finances of the association were in much the same position as they were at the beginning of the season. Permission had been granted to organise an art union for the establishment and equipping of a gymnasium for boxing and sport tn general.
