RUGBY FOOTBALL
ANNUAL REPORT Last season, from all points of view, was most successful, states the annual report of the North Otago Rugby Union, and the support accorded by the public far exceeded any previous records. Competitions were again conducted in seven grades, and a welcome was extended to the newly-formed Enfield Club in the Junior Grade. The Waitaki Sub-union was to be commended on the manner in which football was again controlled and encouraged in country districts.
j During the season 1G representative games were played, 11 being won, 4 lost, and 1 drawn. The junior representative team played and won two games, both against South Canterbury. During the year, at the institution of the North Otago Union, a touring scheme for South Island minor unions was instituted, which comprised of the Scddon Shield district on the one hand and the Southland, Otago and Canterbury subunions and the Ashburton and Otago Unions on the other hand.
It was pleasing to record a satisfactory surplus on the year’s operations. Gate receipts, although constituting a record, were offset by the rising cost of transport of representative trams and the entertainment of the large number of visiting teams.
Once again, the union’s thanks were due to the Referees' Association tor its co-operation. The p: operation of a new playing area at the Show Giounds had just been completed and the appreciation of the union of the generous manner in which the Agricultural and Pastoral Association had met it in connection with the preparation of tiie mound was recorded.
