LARGE LAMB ENTRY P.A. CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 11. A record number of nearly 20,000 store lambs was entered at the Addington market to-day. All sold well, although biggest and light, and’ plain sorts were a little easier than last week. Lambs numbered 19,650, two-tooths 568, old ewes 2329 and wethers 81, a total of 22,628. The lamb sale opened at 2s a head below last week, but the sale firmed, the top price of 34s being paid. A line of Romney wether lambs and a similar lot from North Otago made 31s 4d for tops. Several other lots made more than 30s. The best ewe lamb price was 33s ll'd for halfbreds from North Canterbury. Best lambs made 28s to 345, good 25s 6d to 28s, medium 21s to 24s 6d, backward and culls down to 15s 6d. The fat lamb entry totalled 1987, compared with 2156 last .week. Values: Extra prime fat lambs, to 49s Id; prime, 39s to 445; good, 35s to 38s; medium, 30s to 345; light, 25s to 295. The fat sheep yarding was 6000, of good quality. The sale was steady throughout. Values: Extra prime heavy wethers, to 68s Id; prime heavy, 50s to 555; prime medium-weight, 44s to 495; ordinary and light, 35s to 435; extra prime hoggets, to 56s Id; prime heavy ewes, to 37s Id; prime ewes, 28s to 31s; medium, 24s to 275; ordinary and light, 19s to 235. Although prices for prime stock remained close to last week’s values, many sales of fat cattle -showed a drop of £1 a head. The entry of 685 fat cows and heifers slipped in places by £1 to 30s, and for poorer condition the decline was more marked. Values:—Best beef made 62s 6d; good, 42s 6d to 50s; medium, 35s to 40s; best cow beef, to 42s 6d; and secondary cow beef, to 355. Extra prime heavy steers made to £27 17s 6d; prime, £2l to £23; prime medium-weight, £l7 to £2O; ordinary and light, £l3 10s to £ls 10s; extra prime heifers, to £22 17s 6d; prime, £ll to £ls; ordinary and light, £8 to £lO 10s; extra prime cows, to £l9 2s 6d; prime cows, £9 to £l2; ordinary and light cows, £7 to £9. The porker yarding was smaller, and the competition was keen, there being an over-all advance of 2s to 3s a head. Choppers were in shorter supply, and values were up. £1 a head. Baconers were also fewer, and rates advanced 2s to 3s a head. Values:—Light porkers made from £3 7s 6d to £3 19s Gd; medium, £4 2s 6d to £4 9s 6d; heavy. £4 14s 6d to £5 4s 6d; choppers, from £5 18s Gd to £l2 8s 6d; light baconers, £5 7s 6d to £5 14s 6d; medium, £5 17s 6d to £6 4s 6d; heavy, £6 7s 6d to £6 14s Gd; extra heavy, £G 19s 6d to £7 9s 6d.
