By Eclipse August 23 .. .. Egmont-Wanganul H.C. August 30 .. Foxton R.C. August 30 .. .. Taranaki H.C Jottings The aptly-named Slick is among the nominations for the President's Handicap at the Otago Hunt Club's meeting. Whakawatea may be raced over hurdles at the Otago Hunt meeting. Judged on looks, he should make a good timbertopper. In the Hunt Cup Debater, a candidate for the Otago Hunt Club Cup, is a six-year-old gelding by Defaulter from Lady Burleigh. At the Otautau meeting he finished second to Gnohill in the O’Brien Memorial Steeples, but was placed first because Gnohill jumped inside a flag. Leading Stake Winner Stymie, the world's leading stake winner with 719,660 dollars, is a chestnut horse by Equestrian from Stop Watch, by On Watch from Sunset Gun, by Man o’ War from Eventide, by Uncle from Noontide, by Colin from Noonday, by Commando from Sundown, by Springfield from Sunshine, Stymie was bred in Texas. An Easy Win At the Dunedin winter meeting Recharge had an easy win: in the Electric Stakes, of six furlongs, coming right away from the field after being third into the straight. The Nigger Minstrel gelding is one of F. J. Boyle’s team, and has been nominated for the Otago Hunt Ctub-’s meeting. Incitatus The Siegfried gelding Incitatus was raced 12 times last season for one wi'n and three placings. His win was scored at the Beaumont meeting at Easter, when he was succcessful in the Novice Stakes on the second day after having been beaten by Our Maureen on the first day. incitatus is due to reappear at the Otago Hunt Club meeting. Neptune Filly In seven starts last season Sea Flower scored two wins and was placed three times. Her first win was in the Spring Nursery Handicap at Riccarton from a field of 21, her winning margin' being two lengths. Her other win was scored in the Hopeful Handicap at Wingatui, in which she was followed home by Beaugard and Billy Mac. By Neptune from Kudos! Sea Flower is a smart galloper, and she has been nominated for the Tally-Ho Handicap at the Otago Hunt Club’s meeting. From Sparkle If breeding counts for anything, Effervescence should have a successful track career, as she is by Nightly from Sparkle, by Colonel Cygnus from Lambent, by Tractor from Dazzling Light, by Kilbroney from Simper. Sparkle won the Dunedin Cup in 1940. As a two-year-old last season Effervescence had two unplaced starts. Citrll's Promise The three-year-old Cltril made friends with a good performance in the Longbeach Handicap at Riccarton. After being near the front all the way, she took the lead in. the straight and was only headed by Special Flight in the last few strides. She shapes like emulating the deeds of her s.ster, Derene, as a smart sprinter. Her breeder and owner, F. A. Roberts, has refused more than one good offer for Citril. He intends to race the Defaulter filly on his own account, after which he will retain her as a brood mare. Training Partnerships Mrs L. Campbell and J, H. Jefferd are now training at Hastings in partnership. This recalls one of the differences in rules between New Zealand and Australia. Training partnerships are not recognised in New South Wales and Victoria. As a result, Da Vinci and King Karachi, who are to race in the Commonwealth in the spring, will officially be trained by J. M. Cameron instead of by J, M Cameron and J. Cameron (a son). i
