NUMBERS INCREASING
INFANTILE PARALYSIS CASES OUTBREAK IN BRITAIN N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent Rec 9 p.m. LONDON, Aug. 'lB. Notifications of infantile paralysis cases in England and Wales totalled 448 for the week ended August 2, for which complete figures are available. TJie totals for the two previous weeks were 302 and 177. According to a statement made by Mr Herbert Morrison before Parliament dispersed, the latest figures are double those of any previous recorded outbreak in Britain. Six deaths were reported this week and 50 confirmed or suspected cases, chiefly in the Lancashire area. Many day nurseries have been, closed, and in some districts school camps and cinema club gatherings have been cancelled The Ministry of Health has issued a warning that the period of greatest danger and the peak of the outbreak should be reached during the next three weeks
