OTAGOS SUPERIORITY
The display of the Otago representative team in the first match of the season must have given its many supporters a good deal of satisfaction. The match was played in a spirit of trial for the “K ’ Cup tournament, since several replacements were effected in the second half. Maniototo pressed strongly at the commencement, but after 20 minutes’ play it was apparent that the Otago team held the upper hand. The Otago forwards played well. W. Middleton, H. Jefferies, D. Stinson and E. Puddy being outstanding. The half-time score was s—o. In the second half Maniototo played more soundly, and A. Hore scored for Maniototo, O. Blackley and A. Hore played well, whilst for OtagoHill the forwards were prominent S. Black, in goal, and E. Blackie also impressed. Goals were scored for Otago by W - Middleton (3), B. Sparrow (2), E. Puddy (1) and H. Jefferies (1). The umpires were Messrs W. McLeod and S. Todd.
