STORES GUTTED
HUGE FIRE NEAR MELBOURNE EARLY MORNING OUTBREAK MELBOURNE. Aug. 15 A fire began early to-day in the Footscray works of W. Angliss ana Company. It is believed to have begun in a section where wool was stored for baling. Firemen from many brigades could make no headway against the main outbreak, and were forced to concentrate on preventing the fire from spreading. The flames had apparently secured a firm hold before the brigades were notified, for soon after it was reported that sections of the roof above the wool, hide and tallow stores had collapsed, sending the flames streaming high into the air. The hide and tallow stores were completed gutted. Burning hides, oils, and fats made the firemen's task extremely difficult, and forced their withdrawal from strategic points.
