CHECK ON RACKETEERS
REGISTRATION OF BUILDERS BILL FOR NEW SOUTH WALES Rec. 8 p.m. SYDNEY, Aug. 5. The draft of the Bill for the registration of builders is ready for presentation to the State Government, according to the president of the Master Builders’ Association of New South Wales. Mr C. G. E. Paynter. He said that builders believed that the only way to check racketeers who had been attracted into the building industry was to register builders. The Bill had the full support of the Master Builders’ Association, and it automatically gives registration to all builders who were operating at the end of the year. Others would have to satisfy the board of their qualifications. From to-day, the prices of hardwood in New South Wales have increased from 48s to 55s 9d per 100 super feet. Builders regard this as drastic and say that it. will raise the cost of homes by 3 or 4 per cent.
