OTAGO BOARD ACTS
POWER CUTS AS FROM TO-NIGHT The Otago Electric Power Board, which supplies’ the Milton, Balclutha, and Palmerston areas with electricity, has announced power cuts to be effective from this evening. With the exception of Saturday nights, all supply will be cut off from 11 otclock each night and switched on again at 5 o’clock each morning. In addition, all street lighting, Neon signs and window lighting will be discontinued. The board appeals to consumers with alternative means of water and space heating to co-operate and to reduce unit consumption as far as possible There has been no instruction to turn off such appliances at specified times, as is the case in Dunedin, although the switching off of all power for the daily periods stated will result in a considerable reduction in the number of units consumed. A threat of more drastic action if the reduction of unit consumption is not sufficient to meet the instructions issued by the Electricity Controller is made by the board.
