HOTEL ACCOMMODATION REQUIREMENTS FOR CENTENNIAL YEAR On behalf of the committee he wished to express appreciation generally of the police report concerning the inspection by the health authorities of the hotels in the city, said the chairman of the newly-constituted Dunedin Licensing Committee, Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M., at the annual meeting yesterday. The health inspector had stated that the survey led to the belief that the district might have reason for some pride in the standard of accommodation available, the chairman said. “ In view of the provincial centenary, it is to be hoped that access to necessary materials will enable long overdue exterior renovations to be effected where such are necessary,” Mr Bundle said. It was to be hoped that during the coming year, licensees would cooperate with the Accommodation Committee of the centennial organisation to cater for visitors to Dunedin. The chairman stressed that in recent years it had been the tendency of some hotel-keepers to forget their obligation to the public, although that applied to only a limited class of hotel-keeper. At the present time if was difficult for them to 'carry out their duties owing to staff shortages, but that problem should not be used as an excuse. “ Some members of the committee have the feeling that this is the case with some licensees, who are not providing the accommodation they are bound to give,” added the chairman. If that was the case, no doubt the police would take action. The committee consisted of Mr Bundle (chairman), and Messrs J. H. Hinton, A. G. Monk, H. A. Newall, J. and V. S. Jacobs. The police were represented by Senior-sergeant D. Vaughan and the City Health Department was represented by Mr D. M. Robertson.
