DUTIES OF LICENSEES
MEALS AND ACCOMMODATION P.A. INVERCARGILL, June 3. Licensees had a duty to supply- not only liquor, but lodgings and meals, said the chairman, Mr R. C. Abernethy, S.M., at the annual meeting of the Wallace Licensing Committee to-day. The supplying of lodgings and meals, he added, was one of the most important sides of their business. “ There has. been a tendency during the war to say that you cannot do this and you cannot do that—that you cannot have a meal and you cannot have a bed,” Mr Abernethy said. “ The committee knows there have been difficulties, but it expects licensees to do what is reasonable.” If a man wanted a bed, and a licensee had a bed available, then that man was entitled to it. If a man wanted a meal at 8 p.m., he was entitled to it.’ He was not entitled to a three-course meal, but he was entitled to a reasonable meal. ' >
Mr Abernethy would say on behalf of the committee that if there was any unjustified refusal the committee would take a very serious view of it.
