CYCLING POPULAR

The proposal to establish a touring section of the Dunedin Amateur Cycling Club should meet with general approval on the part of the large number of cyclists who take part in cycling outings at week-ends and holidays, some going a distance from Dunedin. This branch of the sport does not involve such strenuous efforts .as actual racing, for which a strict code of rules must be followed. The average pace of touring club members is approximately eight to 10 miles an hour, compared with the racing man’s time of 20 to 22 miles an hour. The first outing by the touring section will take place at 1.30 p.m. on June 1 from the Caledonian Ground gates in Anderson’s Bay road. The racing section of the club has already held two races for newcomers, those showing up prominently being F. Paterson, R. Lindsay and K. R. Little, while anumber of others should improve with serious training. The first open race of the season will be held from Green Island to Brighton and return on Saturday, and with the Otago 25 and 50-miles championships ahead, form will be watched closely. SPORTS—I 3
