“DELIBERATE UNTRUTHS”
EMERGENCY PETROL SUPPLY SERVICE DUNEDIN’S REQUIREMENTS “There are some deliberate untruths on this matter being propagated in Dunedin,” the president of the Automobile Association (Otago). Mr G. W. Ferens, said at the monthly meeting of the executive of the association last night when the negotiations to obtain a 24-hour emergency . petrol service were being discussed. “This association has never suggested that all petrol stations should be open for 24 hours, and the deliberate untruths on this point which are being fostered are resented. Our position has always been clear. “We ask that there should be an emergency 24-hour service, as there is in every other. centre of any consequence in the country,” Mr Ferens said. The question had been referred by the retail trade to its executive and was now a matter between the motor union and the trade in Wellington. There would not be any further discussion in Dunedin.
The statement by Mr Ferens was the result of a request by Mr R. O. Talbot that the association’s attitude should be reiterated. He had heard distorted reports of the association's demands and they appeared to be gaining currency. They were untrue and should be denied.
