MEDICAL SCHOOL

SECOND YEAR CLASSES RENEWED DISSATISFACTION Daily Times Special Service AUCKLAND, Mar. 17. Dissatisfaction with the restricted admissions to the second-year medical classes was expressed in a letter from the Professorial Board of Auckland University College received at a meeting of the College Council. The letter stated that the board was very much concerned at the large number of competent candidates from the Auckland centre who were not able to gain admission to the, Otago Medical School. The board asked the council to consider whether the question of increasing the number of admissions to the Medical School should not again be raised with the University of New Zealand and the University of Otago. The president, Mr W. H. Cocker, said a Senate Committee had been appointed to consider the matter. It was taking evidence on the number of doctors New Zealand required and how many were, likely to be available in the next few years. The chairman of the Professorial Board, Professor Rutherford, said that only 15 Auckland students had been placed in the second-year classes out of 72 applicants. The council resolved to forward the board’s letter to the Senate Committee.
