ARMAMENT RESERVE
CREATION IN UNITED STATES PREPARING FOR EMERGENCY WASHINGTON, (Rec. 9.30 p.m.) Aug 10. The Government is starting to build a 2,100,000,000 dollar war reserve stock-pile of critical materials for emergency use, said the Undersecretary for War, Mr Kenneth Roual. The stock-pile would largely consist of strategic materials which were not available in th£ United States, including asbestos, chromite, manila and sisal fibres, jewels, lead, pepper, rubber, tin and zinc, also surplus materials worth 300,000,000 dollars from the second world war. The purchases would be spread over five years. Mr Richard Deupress, who is the civilian president of the Munitions Board, said the purchases would be made with due regard for civilian shortages, inflationary pressures and the economy of foreign countries. /
