CLASH OF OPINION
PUBLIC AND OFFICIALS JAVANESE STOWAWAY’S FUTURE (Rec. 9.30 p.m.) DARWIN, Aug. 10. Officialdom and public sympathy are clashing on the future of the 12-year-old Bas Wie, who is noW slowly recovering from the effects of exposure and burns. Wie stowed away in the engine nacelle of a Dakota and flew from Koepang to Darwin. The Immigration Department says that the boy, who is an orphan, must return to Timor as soon as he is well enough. Public opinion is that he deserves more than return to a place he did not like. There have been many offers to adopt him or find him a job.
