NOTES FROM RICCARTON
ARABIAN NIGHT SORE (Special.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 26. The weather was fine this morning, and some of the horses with engagements tomorrow were given a bit of sprinting on the trial grass track, which was holding. Arabian Night struck himself while working a few days ago, injuring a bone below the hock on his near hind leg. It may not be serious, but he is sore. As a result,. he may be allowed to miss his engagement in the Homeby Steeplechase to-morrow. His form in this race was to have determined his programme for the remainder of the trip If he does not run to-morrow, he may be started in the Jumpers' Flat Handicap on the following Saturday, as a preliminary to hurdle races on the last two days. Leigh Barton was given two rounds of pace work this morning, and he seemed to move quite soundly. The two-year-old Royal Robe has been causing trouble lately with his teeth. He has not been feeding well, and L. J. Ellis may not start him in the Haldon Stakes. D. P. Wilson is here with Grill and his other three horses, Frances, Burnbrae, and Prize Ring, are expected to arrive later in the day. E J. Ellis had his three horses, As Required, Grand Forest, and Baracha, on the track this morning. Other later arrivals from the south include Slayer, The Raker, and Double Shuffle.
