BROADCASTS TO RUSSIA
AMERICAN PROGRAMMES EARLY IN THE AUTUMN WASHINGTON, July 7. The State Department is preparing plans for broadcasts to Russia early in the autumn. The Russians are estimated to possess 75,000 short-wave receivers capable -of picking up the programmes, which will consist mainly of news reports with commentaries. Britain is at present the only western Power broadcasting to Russia, but France has announced a plan to start programmes soon. The Russians have not objected in either case, and are not expected to object to broadcasts from America.
