ITALIAN-BORN NUN CANONISED

Rome radio announced that the Pope has proclaimed santification of Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini, Italian-born nun who became an American citizen, and founded 60 convents in North America. She died 30 years ago.
An earlier message stated: Twenty cardinals and 40 archbishops and bishops, in the semi-public consistory, voted unanimously in favour of canonisation of Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini, of Chicago, who will be the first United States Catholic saint, and also canonisation of Bernardino Realing, an Italian priest who died in 1616, Elizabeth Richer de Ages, of France, who was co-founder of the Order of Daughters of the- Cross, and Joaq Debritto, a Portuguese Jesuit who was martyred in India in 1693.
