Pandit Nehru, winding up the Congress Working Committee session, said Congres wished to establish a republic of India, absolutely free from foreign domination. He added that India might even break British connections. “ I do not doubt that if you approach the task in the right spirit you can produce a satisfactory constitution for India,” Mr Ganhdi told a meeting of the All-India Congress Committee. He added: “I know the proposed assembly is not a free assembly. There are many defects in the scheme. We will strive to remove them .inside. They shall not better us.” Later the All-India Congress Committee, by 204 votes to 51, ratified the decision of the executive of the National Congress accepting the British Cabinet members’ long-term proposals while rejecting the interim proposals.
