TENSION INCREASING

CONDITIONS IN SIAM A NUMBER OF ARRESTS (Rec. 8.30 p.m.) BANGKOK, July 6. The tension has increased in Siam as the police arrested Liang Chaiyakaran, the outspoken opponent of the Premier in the National Assembly, and also searched two assembly men and four journalists. The move is seen as an effort to halt Opposition charges that the Government suppressed information of the King’s death on June 9 or was directly implicated in it. The Premier. General Phanomyong. prorogued the Assembly, revived the war-time state of national emergency, imposed press censorship, and appointed the former police general as commander-in-chief of the army. The police have offered 200 to 1000 dollars as a reward for information leading to the conviction of persons spreading anti-Government rumours.
