MOB VIOLENCE
CULPRITS TO DIE DEATH OF CAPTURED AIRMEN (Rec. 9.45 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 22. Two Germans have been sentenced to death for instigating a mob of civilians to commit violence against three British airmen who baled out 'after the bombing of Essen. The prosecution said that Erich Heir, a former Wehrmacht captain who was in charge of the escort for the captured flyers, encouraged the crowd to stone and beat the prisoners, who were finally flung from a 60-foot bridge. Two who remained alive after the fall were killed by shots fired from the bridge. Three other Germans concerned in the incident were sentenced to life imprisonment, 10 years, and 5 years respectively. Two were found not guilty.
