UNITED NATIONS

REGIONAL OFFICE IN EUROPE LONDON. Dec. 21. The United Nations must have a regional office in Europe, said Mr NoelBaker, Britain’s chief of the delegation to the Preparatory Commission, at a dinner given by the chairman of the commission, Dr Zuleta. Mr NoelBaker added that Britain’s efforts to have the headquarters in Europe were unsuccessful, but it had resolved to do the utmost to make the United Nations Organisation a success in the trans-Atlantic home. He maintained, however, that a central European office must be established to bring practical day-to-day co-operation to the Continent. It was vital for Europe and its immediate reconstruction, and for the United Nations Organisation’s long-term projects, that this centre be established soon.
