SITE OF HEADQUARTERS

UNITED NATIONS ORGANISATION EASTERN PART OF AMERICA (Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 21. The committee of the United Nations Preparatory Commission which discussed the site for the permanent headquarters of the United Nations Organisation decided by 25 votes to 5 that it should be in the eastern part of the United States. There were 10 abstentions. The vote was taken after two hours’ discussion. Many delegates argued that taking a vote for east or for west would be undoing the committee’s previous desion that the seat should be established at the most suitable place in any part of the United States. They considered that the matter should be left entirely to the interim committee, which has been empowered to examine the data submitted by more than 50 American cities and districts and submit six suitable sites to the General Assembly.
