HELP FOR BRITAIN

CREDITS FROM AMERICA PROBABLE CONDITIONS (Rec. 9.15 p.m.) NEW YORK, Oct. 1. The United States will press for the elimination of the British Empire dollar pool and the virtual elimination of Empire tariff preferences as a condition for granting large dollar credits to Britain, says the Washington correspondent of the New York Herald-Tri-bune. American officials do not expect these matters to be fully settled during the current negotiations, but it is clear that firm understandings will be demanded on these and other questions of trade policy. The Assistant Secretary of State, Mr J. Clayton, is believed to have emphasised these points at to-day’s policy talks.
