PETROL RATION
THE ALLOWANCE FOR JULY DISAPPOINTMENT EXPRESSED (Special) AUCKLAND, June 26. The statement of the Minister of Supply, Mr Sullivan, that petrol to the face value of the coupons would be available during July, was commented on yesterday by the president of the Automobile Association, Auckland, Mr F. G. Farrell, and the president of the North Island Motor Union, Mr A. Grayson. Mr Farrell said that private motorists were disappointed by the allowance, and had certainly anticipated a considerable increase on the amount offered. Mr Grayson said that, with V-E Day past, the Motor Union considered that 10 gallons a month would be a reasonable amount to ask for the private motorists in New Zealand. They had been more severely rationed than any other motorists in the Empire with the exception of those in Great Britain. Both Mr Farrell and Mr Grayson asked motorists to have confidence that the automobile associations were making the strongest representations on their behalf. Mr Farrell added that, if seme more equitable allowance was not forthcoming after a reasonable time, the Automobile Association must reserve the right to take whatever action was necessary to impress on the Government the growing restlessness and impatience of private motor vehicle owners.
