Ministerial Mr Adam Hamilton, a member of the War Cabinet, was a passenger by the through express yesterday on his way to Wellington for the opening of Parliament to-day.
Mr J. C. Blakeley, president of the Wellington Swimming Centre, is visiting Dunedin. „ „ Messrs M. Connelly, M.L.C., T. O’Byrne, MLC., and P. G. Connolly, M.P., were passengers by the through express' yesterday en route to Wellington for the opening of Parliament, to-day. Information has been received by the Otago branch of the Royal Life Saving Society that Admiral Lord Louis Mountbatten has accepted the position of president of the society's London head office in the place of the late Lord Desborough. Mr J. S. Skinner, president of the New Zealand Grain, Seed, and Produce Merchants’ Federation, left by the express yesterday on a visit to the North Island branches of the federation. Mr S. C. Ringrose (president) and Mr W. C. McDonnell (secretary), of the New Zealand Footwear Employees' Union of Workers, left by the through express yesterday to attend meetings of district unions in Christchurch, Wellington, and Auckland. . „ „ T Messrs S. F. Mclnnes and W. J. Mclnnes (Dunedin) have been granted the status of F.P.A.N.Z. (fellow public accountant) in the New Zealand Society of Accountants. Mr M. R. Carson (Dunedin) has been admitted to membership of the society with the status of A.R.A.N.Z. (associate registered accountant). The staff of the local branch of the National Bank of New Zealand, Ltd., met last week to bid farewell to Mr Norman T Brown, who is retiring after 41 years service with the bank. The manager, Mr I S Cantrell, wished him every happiness in his retirement, and of the staff presented him with a solid leather bowling case and a handsome wall mirror. . „ . Passengers who left for the north by air yesterday were Mr H. Dinneen and Mrs’M. Cunningham for Christchurch, Mr G. Benson, Mr B. Murphy, Mr A. Chisholm, and Mr T. Willi-ms for Wellington, Mrs E. Eastgate, Mr D. J. W<-sney, and Mr H. McKenzie for Auckland. Passengers who arrived from the north by the afternoon plane were Mr S. D. Irwin, Mr R E. Osmond, and Mr S. Eddowes from Auckland, Mr M. R. Terry, Mrs J. Terry, and Mr J. Milner from Wellington, Mr J. Orr. Mrs J. Orr, and Mr Levitoff from Christchurch.
