WOOL APPRAISAL
ATTRACTIVE MERINO AND HALFBRED The Dunedin Stock Agents’ and Woolbrokers’ Association reports that the fourth appraisement was concluded yesterday, when 16,106 bales were offered. This figure can be considered very satisfactory owing to the short’ period between the last two appraisals and the congestion of wool in all brokers’ stores owing to the storage problem. . , ... The offering comprised mainly highcountry merino and halfbred clips, with the usual selection of crossbred wools. In addition, there was a large percentage of skirtings suitable for allocation to scourers. Generally, the wool opened up similar in condition to the previous appraisals, and some very attractive clips of merina and halfbred wools were submitted. , , ~ . Owing to the late shearing and the wet season, some wools were cotted and a number of lines were showing dry yolk and grass stained. This was reflected in the prices received. The “ get-up ” of the wool was generally satisfactory, and it was noticeable that growers are taking more care and keeping necks separate from pieces. The final sale for the season is listed for Anril 17.
