ASSOCIATION MEMBERSHIP
DISCUSSION BY EXECUTIVE
Mr J. H. Main raised the question of membership at the monthly meeting of the Norili Otago Automobile Association on Monday night. He quoted a case in which, he said, the Canterbury Association could easily have signed up a member who had joined the North Otago Association.
Mr D. H. Thomson (president) expressed (lie opinion that motorists should be members of the association in their own districts. If there were members of the local association residing outside the district the executive should urge them to join the association in their own district.
The secretary (Mr H. Hay) pointed out that some of the old members who had left the district still retained their membership of the North Otago Association. One was in Auckland, and another in New Plymouth. He considered that the right of the member to chocsc his own association should be respected. Mr Dalmer moved that a remit on the lines suggested by the president be drawn up for the S.I.M.U. half-yearly meeting. Messrs W. Gillies and H. M. Barclay said they would lose members if the Motor Union adopted the remit, to which Mr Thomson replied that they might gain more than they would lose. Mr Hay said they did not deliberately sign up for the local association a motorist residing in another district, but collected his subscription and sent it on to the association concerned. An amendment, proposed by Mr H. J. Jenkins, seconded by Mr G. A. Cartwright, that no action be taken, was carried by six votes to four.
