AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION
MONTHLY MEETING OF
EXECUTIVE
The monthly meeting of the executive of the North Otago Automobile Association was held on Monday night. There were present Messrs D. H. Thomson (president), H. J. Jenkins, G. W. Kelvey, A. Yeoman, E. Guthrie, A. Taylor. G. Cartwright, H. M. Barclay, J. W. Petrie, W. Gillies, J. H. Main, I. Dalmer, and J. M. Wilson. The Oamaru Athenaeum Committee advised that a meeting of member of the Athenaeum had voted against the proposal to lease a room to the association. — The committee agreed to leave the matter in abeyance. ' The action of the secretary (Mr H. Hay) in granting the Waitaki Girls" High School the use of the camping grounds for a sports meeting on March 23 was approved. It was agreed to write thanking the Oamaru Borough Council for the prompt attention given to the re-painting of tile parking lines and bus stop markings. The Peace Celebrations Committee wrote soliciting the assistance of the association.—Messrs Thomson. Hay, and Main were appointed a committee. Messrs Thomson, Dalmer, and Hay were appointed delegates to the half-yearly meeting of the South Island Motor Union at Christchurch on April 13. It was decided to write drawing the attention of he Waitaki Couny Council to the dangerous nature of the open drain at the corner of Pembroke street.
Mr Thompson gave figures of estimated cost of employing a caretaker-patrolman, the figure for buying a section, erecting a house, and purchasing a car, being set down at £2301 for the first year, and for renting a house, at £776. The third alternative was for a caretaker at the motor camp only, with a guarantee of £SO a yeai.—The matter was held over in tlie meantime. Accounts totalling £55 15s lOd were passed for payment. Two new members were elected.
