ALL PURPOSES APPEAL

LAUNCHED BY PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE The North Otago Patriotic Committee yesterday afternoon decided to launch the 19415 All Purposes Appeal immediately, in order to bo ready with subscription lists for tlie Dominion-wide radio-telephone appeal which is to bo conducted shortly. Tlie Mayor (Mr J. C. Kirkness), who presided over a good attendance of members, said he had not expected that it wouiq be necessary to launch the appeal until later on, but in view of information received from the Otago Provincial Council in connection with the radiotelephone appeal to be held shortly, it would be better for the committee to reach a decision in the matter. He had advised the R.S.A., which had continued its appeal for club room funds, for which a clear field had been left till May or June, but he felt they should fall in with ice rest of the Dominion in the arrangements made by the National Patriotic Board. In doing so he felt somewhat diffident in asking the country people, who were in tlie middle of harvesting and having a difficult time, to join at such short notice. Their quota this year, however, was very small. It was £9375, of which they had £4249 in hand, leaving £5123 to be raised if possible on or before April 25, or £2563 each for town and country, Mr Kirkness asked if they could do it in the time, to which country members replied: “Yes.” Continuing, Mr Kirkness said that when the quota was filled it would leave a clear field to the R.S.A. again for raising club room funds: Tile All Purposes Appeal would not necessarily close on April 25, for if tlie quota was not filled they would just carry on until it was, Mr A. C. Piper expressed gratification at the splendid results received from the country districts for the R.S.A. funds. The quotas fixed for this year, with figures for last year in parentheses, are as follows: —Ajredale, £6O (£85); Ardgowan, £6O (£85); Awamoko-Georgetown. £55 (£70); Duntroon, £lO5 (£150); Enfield, £135 (£190); Eveline-Fernbrook, £3O (—); Five Forks, £IOO (£140); Hampden, £lls (£160); Herbert, £IOO (£140); Kakanui, £55 (£70); Kauroo Hill, £BO (£115); Kia Ora, £75 (£105); Kurow, £225 (£325); Livingstone, £6O (£85); Maheno, £l9O (£270); Moeraki, £25 (£35): Ngapara, £lO5 (£155); Omarama, £IBO (£260); Otekaike, £6O (£85); Papakaio. £l9O (£270); Pukeuri, £SO .(£75); South Oamaru, £lO (—); Tokarahi, £lO5 (£150); Totara. £BS (£120); Waianakarua, £2O (£30); Waiareka and Awamoa, £55 (—); Waitaki, £25 (£35); Hilderthorpe, £25 (£35); Weston. £9O (£130); Windsor, £9O (£130). The committee asked Miss Cowan, in view of her good services on the committee for some years, to continue her membership of the committee.
