WAIPIATA STOCK SALE
About 13,500 sheep were forward .at yesterday's auction at Waipiata. The attendance was good, local buyers being well represented, and there was also support from Canterbury operators. Annual draft ewes, although in demand, met with an erratic sale, and prices were not up to expectations, and in many cases were lower than last season’s rates. Two-tooth ewes, especially the strong-woolled types, brought fair values. The majority of the lambs, owing to the unfavourable season, lacked the usual bloom and appearance. Buyers showed a preference for the best ewes in healthy condition, which sold at fair values, but backward sorts were neglected. Wethers met with a strong inquiry.
