STAYED IN DEATH CELL
WIFE OF CONDEMNED MAN (Rec. 8.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, Mar 18. Because of the housing shortage, Mrs Bernice Wood was allowed to spend a fortnight with her husband in the death cell in Hattiesburg (Mississippi) Gaol She had gone to Hattiesburg form final reunion with her husband, Donald Wood, aged 24, before he was hanged for the murder of a Hattiesburg laundry owner. Because she could not find accommodation in Hattiesburg the gaoler allowed her to share her husband’s bunk in the death cell, and gave her regular prison meals. Wood’s execution has now been postponed and his wife returned to her home in St. Louis. ■
