FORMER SWIMMING CHAMPION
DEATH OF' A. T. KENNEDY SYDNEY, Jan. 5. Dr Arthur Thomas Kennedy, a former world’s swimming champion and record-holder, died here, aged 77. He was regarded as the swimming phenomenon of his day. Before he went to America, in 1891, to complete his dentistry studies, he won swimming championships in Australia. In America, for three successive years, Kennedy won the Atlantic championship, the national championship (twice), and the 100 vards championship of the world. Records which he established for the 100 yards and mile in America stood for many years. Kennedy gave up competitive swimming when he returned to Australia to practise his profession in 1895.
