Patriotic Dances.—As a result of dances arranged by the Alexandra Patriotic Committee over the Christmas holidays, the sum of over £7O has been handed to the All Purposes Appeal. Brokenshire of Waiutv, formerly superintendent of the Dunstan Hospital, is visiting Alexandra.—The Rev. J. Newlands. of Anderson’s Bay, is visiting Alexandra.—Mrs F. W. Lindup and Miss M. Vital Statistics.—The following are the vital statistics for Alexandra for 1944, the previous year’s figures being given m parentheses:—Births, 33 (36); deaths, 16 (11); marriages, 5 (6). Valedictory—Mr W. R. Lloyd Williams, who retired from the position of orchard instructor on December 31. was the guest of honour at a function arranged by officers of the Department of Agriculture and the Department’ of Lands in this district. Eulogistic reference was made to his lengthy and valuable service to his department and to the farming community in general, and best wishes were extended for a happy retirement. In reply. Mr Williams thanked his fellow-officers for their remarks, and recalled some interesting experiences connected with his work. He added that he would continue to reside in Alexandra, and he hoped that the pleasant relations of the past would be maintained.
