EMPIRE THEATRE

"MOONLIGHT IN VERMONT” Rich in music and romance, and well spiced with piquant comedy, “Moonlight in Vermont,” which commenced a season at the Empire Theatre yesterday, has an appeal for audiences of all ages. Gloria Jean, the young singing star of several successful films, scores another triumph in this production, in which she is cast as a pupil in a New York theatrical school. When misfortune forces her to leave the school and return to Vermont she is accompanied by her friends in the school, and the subsequent scenes offer many entertaining moments of melody and comedy. Ray Malone, a remarkably capable young dancer, plays opposite the star, and Sidney Miller and Betty McCabe provide much of the humour. Good performances are also given by George Dolenz as the harassed director of the school, and by Fay Helm, his secretary. The film introduces seven new tunes, including the Rogers and Hart number “Lover.” The supporting features include the latest “March of Time" production. Box plans are at the D.T.C. and the theatre.
