MAGISTRATE’S COURT
Tuesday, December 12 (Before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M.) Breaches of Award Thomas Herbert McKay, a baker, of Caversham, was proceeded against by the inspector of awards, who claimed £3O in respect of alleged breaches of the bakers and pastrycooks' award, in that the defendant failed to pay the award rate of wages to two employees and failed to keep a proper time and wages book.—Mr C. H. Stevens, for the defendant, said the offences were the result of ignorance of the true position.—'The magistrate said he would take the circumstances of the case into account and inflict only a small penalty. Fines of £2 on each charge were imposed, with costs. Possession of Dwelling Archibald Henry Frederick Still (Mr H. L. Gibson) claimed possession of a dwelling at 51 Baldwin street from Robert C. Holt.—The magistrate made an order for possession on or before January 17, with costs (17s) and solicitor’s fee (265). Costs Awarded In the case of George Spiers, farmer, of Portobello, versus Edward Ward, garage proprietor, Dunedin, judgment was entered for the plaintiff for additional costs comprising witnesses' expenses (£1 18s), solicitor’s fee (£1 Is), and court costs (3s).
