APPEALS AGAINST SERVICE The No. XI Armed Forces Appeal Board —Messrs W. R. Clarke (chairman), D. T. Vorley and J. C. H. Somerville—held a silting yesterday to hear appeals against mobilisation and for releases from the services.

The following appeals against mobilisation were dismissed:—Brown and Turner for E. J. H. Garthwaite, apprentice painter, and F. Smaill, painter; Director of National Service for C. T. Johns, leather hand (as from March 31, 1945); Bayley Tomkins Hedges for W. J. Singleton, beamsman, and E. Field, machine operator (as from February 28, 1945); Director of National Service for L. G: Fadman, radio serviceman (as from January 31, 1945); F. J. Lake, Ltd., for W. N. Brown, canister maker; R. C. Marshall for L. C. Marshall, truck driver (as from February 28, 1945); G. W. Davies and Co. for W. S. Robertson, apprentice engineer (as from February 28, 1945); Dunedin Taxis, Ltd., for R. W. Gardner, welder (as from January 31); Director of National Service for G. G. Harvey, surfaceman (as from February 28, 1945); New Zealand Refrigerating Co., for H. J. Guilford, freezing worker, W. R. McVie, engine driver, and W. R. Edmcnson, apprentice fitter (as from June 30, 1945); W. J. Davie (appeal against remobilisation). . The following appeals were adjourned sine die:—Director of National Service for R. Marshall, leather hand, and G. H. Jordan, leather hand; Bayley, Tomkins and Hedges for W. H. Graham, machinist, and J. Duncan, lime pit hand;- Donaghy s Rope and Twine Company for J. O Rourke, ropemaker; National Mortgage and Agency Company for H. L. Robertson, factory foreman, C. C. Armstrong, fish factory manager, W. R. G. Bain, fisherman, H. V. Hanson, fisherman; T. Ness and Son for T. Ness, foreman woolsorter, and G. N. Nicholls, woolsorter: Singer Sewing Machine Company for J. T. Mitchell, mechanic; Frew Brothers for W. J. Thomson, baker; W. Wright and Co. for J. A. Shaw, baker; F. Fraser for A. D. Gill, baker. . „ An appeal by Mrs A. M. Conroy for the release of C. W. Conroy from the navy was granted. An appeal by the New Zealand Refrigerating Company for the release of B. V. Samson, a cooper, was recommended (to February 28).
