CROQUET

The official opening of the Tainui Croquet Club was held in bright sunshine on Thursday last. Mrs Rennie, the president, welcomed the large number of guests and representatives of sister clubs. Mrs J. McDonald, vice--president of the New Zealand Croquet Council, conveyed greetings from the Otago Croquet Association for a successful season, and after running the first hoop, declared the lawns open for the 1944-45 season. Mr Rosevear (president of the bowling section) also extended best wishes. Mrs Rennie and Mrs McDonald each received a shoulder spray. Afternoon tea was served in the pavilion, the tables being decorated with tulips and spring'flowers. During the afternoon competitions were held on the lawn, Mrs Forrester winning the angles, Mrs McPherson the tunnel, and Mrs Chisholm the high aggregate. Mrs McDonald was the holder of the lucky cup.
