MANY MEMBERS ABSENT
RESUMPTION OF HOUSE TO-DAY
INTEREST IN BY-ELECTION (F.0.P.R.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 23.
With at least a dozen members of Parliament campaigning in the Awarua electorate on behalf of, the candidates contesting the by-election to be held on Saturday, the attendance at this week’s sitting of the House of Representatives will be unusually small. The House, which has sat continuously since the resumption of the session in July, will adjourn on Fi'iday for a period of three weeks.
When the House resumes to-morrow consideration will again be given to the estimates for the State Forest Service, discussion on this item having been interrupted by the week-end adjournment. It is the last vote in the main estimates, consideration of which Itas already extended over 16 sitting days. , The business to be dealt with this week includes the supplementai-y estimates, which will probably be introduced one day and passed the next. The measures on the order paper are the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration Bill, the Earthquake and War Damage Bill, the Post and Telegraph Amendment Bill and the Quarries Bill. The last-mentioned Bill ig now in the committee stage.
