PIGEON RACING

The Dunedin Homing Pigeon Club flew two races last week, the first from Wellington. Mr J. Bock liberated 10a birds, representing 20 lofts, in bad weather, which made a hard flight for the birds. The winning bird flew the 396 miles in 14hr 3min, at a velocity of 828yds per minute. Results:—A. Stone’s Rough Willie 1; A. Stone’s Peter Royal, 2; J. Scoullar’s Blue Hawk, 3; A. Fraser's Walter, 4; P. Rule’s McGhie, 5; R. Penno’s Odd Trick, G- P. Winter’s Surprise Eagle and J. Still’s Shetland Red (equal), 7. The second race was from Ashburton, where the station master liberated 211 birds, representing 20 lofts, in better conditions. The birds made a fast flight, the winners flying the 154 miles in 3hr lOmin. Results:—H. Hillard’s White Star and J. Scoullar's Jingle, 1423.4 (equal), 1; P. Winter’s Bronze Eagle, 1418.9, 3; A. Fraser’s Bon Blue, 1418.1, 4; T. Douglas's Rata R., 1416.9, 5. The club will fly another race from Wellington next Saturday.
