MODEL ENGINEERING

Mr J. E. Brown presided over the mpnthly meeting of the Model Engineering Society. Reports from subcommittees indicated that the stand at the forthcoming New Zealand Industries Fair, which had been undertaken at the request of the engineering section of the Manufacturers’ Association, would be of outstanding interest. Many novelties would be on display, including cooking by a method shrouded in mystery, and a magnificent working model fountain, with automatically changing coloured lights and jet patterns. In addition, demonstrations of welding, casting, turning, moulding, etc., are being arranged. The correct time will be indicated by a sychronous electric clock of the pattern used by the Greenwich Observatory. Many models will be working under tljeir own power, and the high standard of previous exhibitions by the society will be maintained. „ Plans are being prepared of the grounds for club activities, including a full-size speed boat pond, a multiplegauge railway track, and a racing car track. Later a modern club room is envisaged, and with these facilities the society hopes to be in a position to cater more fully for the large number of people whose interest m mechanical matters has been created, in many cases, by war work. Mr D. G. McKay was elected a member.
