STOP-WORK MEETING
WATERSIDERS’ ACTION 200 SUMMONSES ISSUED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 21. Over 200 summonses have been Issued against the waterside workers who participated in a stop-work meeting which lasted until 3 p.m. on October 11. The summonses were issued by the police on an information laid by the inspector of factories. The men are charged with being parties to a strike, contrary to the Strike and Lockout Emergency Regulations. About 50 men will appear in court each day. There was no work on the Wellington waterfront on October 11, owing, it is alleged, to the monthly stop-work meeting of the Wellington Waterside Workers’ Union, which lasted till after 3 o’clock in the afternoon. When the meeting finally broke up, the watersiders went home. The Waterfront Controll Commission, it was reported, was then notified that the men would not accept engagement either for the remainder of the afternoon or for work commencing at 6 p.m. The all-night gangs starting work at 11 o’clock at night were not affected.
