Mr W. J. A. Hollow, formerly of Alma and Oamaru. and recently of Willowby, Mid-Canterbury. has been appointed headmaster of the Amberley School. Mr and Mrs Hollows were guests at 1 a social evening at Willowby on the eve of their departure for Amberley, and were the recipients of a dinner service ahd cheque in appreciation of their many and varied activities during their stay in Willowby. Archdeacon Russell is at present visiting Oamaru; and will conduct services at Newborough to-morrow. Word has been received of the' safety of U.S. Marine J. D. Thompson, who in July of last year spent his furlough with Mr and Mrs W. R. Williams, Tay street, Oamaru. Marine Thompson took part in badminton games,. and frequently visited the Waitaki Boys’ High School during his stay in Oamaru. He took part in the Tarawa fighting in the Pacific, and was bounded in the leg. He is now back with his parents at Fort Worth, Texas, United States.
